Invisalign® Q & A

Scottsdale Dental Excellence

What is InvisalignⓇ?

Invisalign is a patented teeth straightening system, offering an alternative to traditional metal braces. The system uses a series of clear plastic aligners to gently move your teeth into their optimal position.

Invisalign uses advanced digital technology to scan your existing smile, map out your treatment plan, and even show you what your smile will look like once treatment is complete.

Why should I choose Invisalign over metal braces?

One of the biggest appeals of Invisalign is the chance to achieve a straighter smile without a mouth full of metal hardware. This is especially appealing to adults who don’t want to broadcast their orthodontic care to their friends and coworkers. Your aligners are nearly invisible while you’re wearing them, and most people don’t even know that you are in the process of straightening your teeth.

Invisalign offers additional benefits over metal braces, including:

  • No discomfort from metal wires or brackets
  • No need to come in for repair to metal components
  • No dietary restrictions
  • Ability to continue existing dental hygiene routines
  • Fewer appointments over the course of treatment time

These are just some of the reasons to give Invisalign strong consideration.

What is Invisalign treatment like?

During your initial consultation, Dr. Clark obtains the images needed to guide your treatment plan. A dental lab uses that data to craft a series of aligners. Once they arrive, you return and Dr. Clark shows you how to fit them over your upper and lower teeth.

You wear your aligners for a minimum of 22 hours each day, taking them out only to eat and perform your oral hygiene routines. They fit snugly at first, placing gentle pressure to shift your teeth into better alignment. After a couple of weeks, you notice a looser fit, which is when you change to the next set of aligner trays.

Over time, you begin to notice your smile changing as the aligners do their work. Dr. Clark monitors your progress during routine visits, ensuring that your smile is moving forward as planned.

What dental issues can Invisalign improve?

Invisalign can address a wide range of common dental issues, including:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Gapped teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Open bite
  • General misalignment

Invisalign can correct many dental issues, but severe cases of each of these conditions may require a different straightening approach.
